Did not like the breakfast ordeal of walking to the next door hotel to eat breakfast with so many people and the lines. The buffet is not set up very well. Drinks should be in another location like even at the end of the line. People had to break through the line to get their drinks. If it had been raining I wouldnt be happy to walk next door. Thank goodness it wasnt. In all my travels never had to go to another hotel to eat."

On a personal note, the evening check-in was handled by a male employee whose customer service skills seemed a bit limited, but the lady I checked out with was excellentfriendly, joyful, and very professional."

"In a pinch I would stay there. The rooms are truly outdated, and had an oder. The frayed bath mat that probably hasn\'t been removed for cleaning deterred us from showering. Maybe if shoes were worn. Dark and depressing, could only be in the room to sleep. But then again, beds were not comfortable could feel the springs. For the money they are raking in, you think they could update, removing carpet and replace the \'90s bedspreads, perhaps a lamp or power strip with USB charging capabilities."

"We loved Sunset Beach Motel. Our room overlooked Lake Huron and was on the first floor. It was beautifully remodeled and clean. Staff was very pleasant and helpful on the phone during my reservation process. We could see Mackinac Bridge lit up at night. And, we had a beautiful sunrise the next morning! Got great pictures. We are seriously thinking of coming back in 2026 to go over to Mackinac Island since we did not have time to do that. Mackinaw City was just one night stay on our way to Glacier National Park. The only thing which would be nice is if Sunset offered a continental breakfast. But, we realize not every establishment is set up to provide that. We always try to reserve hotels with a hot breakfast to eat & hit the road quickly! Thanks again for an awesome stay! We will highly recommend Sunset to any friends traveling from PA to upper MI & UP."

"The hotel was fine but the most extraordinary thing was the lady on the reception. She was a great human being and helped me and my family immensely, in every way she could. Unfortunately doesn\'t her name but wanted to give a very big shout out for something specifically that she did for us. The room that I booked in this hotel was having just a queen bed which was a mistake to book and which understandably couldn\'t accommodate all my family (five persons, two adults and 3 kids). When I went inside and noticed how small it was I went back to her and informed that I didn\'t realize that the room would be so small for which she replied that she herself was surprised why I chose such a small room. I explained that it was my mistake and I didn\'t pay too much attention while I was making reservation. That nice lady without asking me upgraded to a bigger room and made this whole experience so awesome. Thanks to her."

"Motel was fairly clean. Beds were decently comfortable. Bathroom was spotless which was a huge bonus. Only complaint was it was slightly musty which is to be expected as Im sure theyre shut down for a majority of the year due to winter. But overall it was pretty good. However, there is access to the 2 water parks in the town and I DO NOT recommend either one. Went to check out both and they are both not only dated but the water at both was cloudy and dingy looking. You could not see your feet if you were brave enough to go in the water. The emerald cove one said it had waterslides which it did but they were blocked off and the pool beneath them was empty and gross looking. Also the lazy river was also cloudy and yellowish brown looking. I wouldnt let my child in either one especially since I wouldnt venture into either one as well. Mind you, we stayed the first weekend in August so you should think that they would be up to date and busy."

"I sought a clean room with basic amenities (mini cool and microwave and quiet surroundings), and I received them. The location is excellent for Mac. City attractions. The interior (blond knotty pine) and the red and white bed linens looked new. Comfortable mattress. Some bathroom tiles need grout, and some exterior items (roof soffits) and outdoor benches need paint."
