I know they always say hotel remotes are filthy, and it looked like it must be wiped off all the time, but between the number buttons where a rag doesnt reach it was really dirty. Not like housekeeping has time to clean between them with a Q-tip, but it was pretty dirty between the number keys. Needed to place a towel down in the tub when showering for fear of catching something. Most of the staff was friendly, however when I asked a simple question regarding servicing the room I was presented with an attitude by a member @ the from desk. Dont remember her name just that she had blonde hair. I quickly pointed it out to her being that it was unusual for me to have this kind of attitude from any staff member @ The Hamilton. The shower is not working properly. The water in the bathtub is not running, the bathtub drain is clogged. We could not use the shower. Since it was one night and we arrived at the hotel late, we were very tired and there was nothing we could do about reporting the problem. Right next to the elevator and facing the lake. The beds were very firm, except for the sofa bed which was NOT firm and very lumpy. The sliding glass door was quite difficult to operate, and I think the track may need to be cleaned. We stepped outside to witness the sunrise in the very chilly morning on Monday. We had a lamp with no shade, but it did have bulbs, so it was operable! The bathroom had a exhaust fan that was very loud so it didn't get used. Breakfast was hot and the choices were many. I would have enjoyed having real half and half instead of pretend cream, but I made it work for the two mornings we were there. The hotel was definitely previously loved and could benefit from a makeover, which they may have plans to do after the ferry stops running next month. The location of the hotel and its proximity to the ferry, restaurants, the lake, etc., not to mention the price, make it a no-brainer to return to in the future. In our room there was a worse odor to the point after being there 10 minutes my lungs started closing up. We moved to a different room, then went out to dinner where I was breathing normally. Went back to the room, same issue with lungs. We had to find a different hotel and still had to pay for 2 nights at the Hamilton since the no cancellation period was in effect. My suspicion is that the issue was their cleaning products. If you have any sensitivity to chemicals do not stay there or at any of the other many hotels that are owned by that company in Mackinaw City (we looked at a few, also with strong chemical smells). We ended up in a mom and pop motel, which was dated but very clean and did not use harsh chemicals.
